Rick and I were racing the other night and it crossed my mind that it might be helpful to list online settings people prefer to play.  Hopefully evan, schriney, hop, jess and others will want to race more online once everyone is ready.

Note: Make sure your own gameplay options (assist settings) are set before you go online as this is how you will race until you go back to the main menu and adjust.  You cannot adjust your assists once you are in an "online game" on the fly.

I prefer:

10% race length
Speed Comp off
Hard AI (Normal is fine if others prefer this too)
Maximum number of AI
Yellow Flags only

For online races, I would also like to do approximately 5 minutes of practice/warm up once all participants are in game. I'll give a "5 minute call" when I host.

I am very easy  and will run whatever anyone wants to run, just let me know.  I think this will help knowing what everyone prefers when we get together online. Again, I don't really care as I am happy with a smile on my face anytime I can run laps.  Its pretty sweet how everyone can do whatever assists, or no assists, they want to for their own ride.

Cool Steamer... Jess and I were just talking about gettng a group together and turning some laps some night soon. I have a couple of questions that you may be able to help me with.

1. Where are your game play assists setup so that they will translate online?
2. Does running less assists make you faster? If so is there a distinct advantage to being set up that way?

Thanks for your help.

Hey schriney, in My Nascar--> settings--> gameplay settings, this is where all the "goods" are for assists and such.

Running less assists, in all other Nascar games I have ever played has made your lap times slower but you would wreck 8 times as much.

This is the question of the hour - I have been wondering about it alot because assists usually involve a level of autobraking/accelerator control so the computer will slow you down a little when needed, up to its discretion.

If someone with no assists with an open track hitting their marks then yes, they would be faster.  Its also more dangerous and I've been wondering if someone running assists (ie stability control) is beating and banging on me with no assists ("relatively" delicate at certain tracks) am I just going to be crushed 100% of the time.

Still, there are a lot of times that I miss my mark but can still roll through a cornering zone without losing as much momentum.  With some assists on I really think the car in this same situation would just slow a little more since you are deviating from its perceived racing line.  I hope that made sense.

I would really love to give it a try.  A well set up car with assists v a well set up car with no asissts would make for an interesting test.  I haven't done this and I don't recall any of these games having this option where people can race whatever they want in the same race.  I will say that the no assist racing is easier in this game than others but its still terribly challenging.

Not meaing to be cocky at all but I have noticed that alot of my lap times are significantly lower in the own the track mode (by a couple seconds) and I've been assuming its soley because I haven't been running any assists.  (My LPI is higher in a lot of places too so I am also wrecking more.)

Edit: lower changed to slower:)

I'm just glad you understood what I was trying to say in the above post...it was a bit confused me thinks.

No assist = faster

Sounds good schriney...fyi, I rolled on dega today.  Don't know if george is running assists or not but he owned it, now I do.  No assists.

I think Jess changes his assists based on the track he is at, but he would have to speak to that.

I've been thinking about it, and I understand it takes some work to get your car set up for a specific track, but why not run a specific setting (i.e. rookie) for online play?  That would only be to 'equalize' the field and let us all have at it.

Just a thought.

We could always lose ai too - the only problem with rookie ai that I would foresee is that they are so slow.  Worth a try if you want though.  It would be great if we could just have 14 humans.

What I meant by rookie setting was the setup, not the AI cars.  With rookie setups at least we'd all be running the same setup, kind of like the Same Ride Racing event I used to host in Forza - just to somewhat 'level' the cars.  But like I said, I understand all the work you put into your setups.  It was just a thought I had last night.

I like that idea Rick.  I am not very good at doing setups.  Ask Jess and he'll tell ya that every setup I ever had in Nascar was his.   Making all cars have the same setup means that driving wins the race, not how good you are at setting up a car.  I know that's part of the game, but one thing that I just don't understand whatsoever.

I know somewhat what I want to do to the car, but my trouble is adjusting the right things to make it happen.  At least with all of us using the same setup then it would be more fun - that way we don't have to sit there and watch steam drive off into the sunset.

With steam, Dan, myself, jess, hop, Nate, Schriney, Evan and G we could put some nice races together.  And on a side note - I don't know how some of you guys race with the controller.  I tried it for a couple races (Bristol being one of them) and I couldn't do it.  I finished dead last.

What about performance points?

Even on Rookie if I am a 65 Overall and the other guy is 100 can I compete?

Of course the guy with 100s at all the tracks will have a better car at any setting than a guy that doesn't.  But I don't think the difference would matter amongst homies.

Do the sprint challenges bro - they build you up the fastest and most of them aren't that difficult.  Completing team contracts and sponsorship contracts in career mode also give you good performance points.

rick hit it right on the head.  You'll get both performance points and rep by doing challenges.  The rep will unlock more sponsorships during your season.  I've been using the craftsman sponsorship which is a "fairly easy" 225 performance points.  Fairly easy being it doesn't rely on qualifying and takes more average places into account.  You won't get this sponsor opportunity until you get enough rep points which you'll get by doing the challenges and building your cars at the same time to make you good enough to have a chance to complete the contract.

Looks like we got a patch today!  The theory on the xbox.com boards is that is removed the performance points for online play.  I haven't noticed a difference in any of my "offline" setups but I forgot to check times with old times to see if the car is slower.  I only raced Infineon and New Hampshire tonight.

I am surprised EA actually responded...
