Austria and Spain met up for their first round Final Tourney match up tonight, and based on the finale in the regular season, it was set to be a great one.

Game 1

Austria would get on the good side first, with a strike from Ivanschitz, Spain's nemesis.  But Spain wouldn't lay back and accept defeat, equalizing in the 52' with a strike from El Nino, Torres.  It would end in a draw.

Austria 1 - 1 Spain

Game 2

Austria was determined to advance, if it meant going on the road in a hostile Division II Euro stadium to do it.  Ivanschitz would once again prove to be the hero of the match, netting goals in the 24' and 79' to put the Austrian side up 2-0.  A fantastic cross to the middle on the Austrian attack would be thwarted, except Capdevila would clear it right into his own net to add salt to the wound.

Spain 0 - 3 Austria

Great games Jerr.  Always good fun bro.

turkey and croatia met up tonight for what was sure to be a defensive battle. Game 1 started off with a quick strike from eduardo to put the croats up 1-0. The teams were locked in a battle until a late equalizer was put in by the ever-persistent Altintop as the game would end in a 1-1 tie.

Game 2 was expected to play out the same way until the surprise turkey team netted a quick opening goal off the foot of Altintop. With the table cloth croatians reeling turkey struck again with a great goal by their main bird Nihat. As turkey turned to a defensive strategy Croatia attacked and attacked until the healthy Eduardo netted a goal to make the score 2-1 in favor of turkey. With one final attack in the 90th eduardo attacked again but was forced into a tough shot which was saved and ended the game with a 2-1 victory for Turkey. The never say die attitude of the Turks has propelled them through another leg as they hope they can continue their run to the finals.

Good games as always dirty dirty

Updated.  Obviously, the matches between Mark and Richie will be delayed until Richie is ready to go.

Jesse, Tony - feel free to wear each other out on the pitch.

Czech v Turkey

Game 1 was a thriller with both teams playing a high octane offensive game.  Petr Czech would play a huge factor in this game by making save after save after save keeping the Czechs in the game and with both teams trading goals the final score was 2-2.

In game 2 the Czechs would need Petr Czech again to keep the game close.  With Czech giving the team some hope the offense would take over with some good possesion and net 2 goals and at the final whistle the score was 2-0.

Czech Rep. moves on with an agg score of 4-2.

Portugal and Sweden finally got together today for their long awaited matchup. In the first half of game one the rustiness showed on defense as both team scored three goals. The defenses recovered in the second half and the final score in game one was 3-3.

The defensive play continued in game two as both teams were scoreless at the half. Sweden got on the board first when Elmander ssored but Portugal soon equalized with a header by Quaresma. Ronaldo scored the game winner in the 71st minute with a sweet shot from the top of the box for a 2-1 Portugal win. Portugal manages to squeek out a 5-4 cumulative victory.

Good games as usual Richie!

Austria and Portugal met up for the second semifinal of the tournament.

Game 1 saw goals scored on both sides early in the match - Aufhauser in the 5' for Austria and Quaresma in the 8' for Portugal.  Unfortunately, that would be the extent of the back and forth action from there on out.

Austria 1 - 1 Portugal

Game 2 was similar to game one, except for the score.  Maniche and Leitgeb both scored early in the match for their respective squads - Maniche in the 10' and Leitgeb in the 15'.  Deco would take Portugal in to the half up 2-1 after netting a goal in the 27'.  Right after the start of the second half, Garics would even the match at 2 apiece in the 49'.  From there it was more back and forth, with Austria getting many chances in the box but unable to convert any.  It would go to extra time - short and sweet, with only one or two chances.  On to penalty kicks, where it was a back and forth seesaw battle.  Neither goalie could get a handle on the first six shots.  Austria's goalie would step up big on the 7th shot, blocking on the right side and pushing the ball out.  Austria would zip it past Portugal's goalie for the win.

Portugal 2 - 2 Austria
PKs (6-7)

Great battles Mark.  Thanks for playing the season and stickin' it out.

Czech Republic v Austria

The Terminator himself was in attendance today as the Final was played.  The #1 Austrian team would take on the #2 Czechs and it would be a good game.

The game would start off with both teams putting some passing together trying to get a feel for the game and the atmosphere.  The Czechs would strike first in the 16th minute as Baros would find himself with the ball just outside of the box and with an open lane would let a shot rip which would find the back of the net, 1-0 Czech.   After a couple of chances from Austria which would test Petr Czech, Galasek would find himself with a little bit of space about 25 yards from goal    and he would catch it square beating the Austrian keeper in the 36th minute to make it 2-0.   That was the first half.

The Austrians would need to find someway to get back into the game in the second half but the Czech defense would hold strong and in the 87th minute off a corner kick that would find Koller's chest at the near post, a quick turn and he would find Jarolim at the 6 yard box to make the score 3-0 and give the Czechs the victory.

Great game as always my brother!!!
