Tips, tricks, warnings, glitches, random info... just post what you think other players might want to know about specific gameplay.

Heavy Sleepers:
Not sure if it's a glitch (assuming it is) but Edgar and Bert will not get up from a nap until they are fully healed if you sent them on a break.  Sending them on a break would include them asking for one and you giving it, or you telling them to go on break.... it does not include sending them on break using the 'crew-sleep' option.

Flat Feet:
Bert, Spike and Tico will fall down in even the lightest of currents.  Try to have them on a break if the weather gets too bad.

Human Bouyees:
Spike and Tico have the hardest time of anyone staying on the boat.  Keep them off the rail in rough seas.

Poor Athletes:
Josh and Roxanne cannot throw a hook... PERIOD.  I have seen both of them take dozens of tries as the same hook and miss everytime (even with good energy) - I eventually get so pissed that I'll send them on break after the 20th attempt so that someone else will jump in on the hook.

Head Trama:
Bert is a good hook thrower but he's better left on shore... I have hired him a handful of times and every-single-time he has busted his head open and needed an evac.

Kenny's Curse:
This is unconforimed, though I am convinced.... Kenny is cursed.  I hired him on as my crew chief and engineer at the very beginning of a career.  In 10 seasons I never left harbor on Friday but I had so many injuries that I eventually had no one left to hire - they would not get on my boat.  In those 10 seasons, Kenny never got hurt a single time yet I went through countless crew members otherwise.  Kenny says, "I always told you this boat was cursed."  Well Kenny, I'm afraid to inform you, but, you are the one who is cursed.

Experience Glitch?:
I have only tried this with Spike and am working to confirm it, but, even when a player goes to 10% full share and they gain all that green (experience stats), that doesnt seem to have an effect on their abilities.  I brought on Spike (again) after he had a few seasons on my boat and then got injured.  His new stats were 100% green except for 1 slot (cooking maybe?).  Long story short, he could not make any repairs to the boat... all of his times were -X.X hours.  The moment I put Tom on the job he was able to make the fixes.

MVP:
Nick is the best and most reliable deckhand in the game.  He gets tired the slowest, heals the fastest when sleeping, rarely gets injured, and throws the hook like and NFL quarterback.  He doesnt have any special skills, though he is a good back-up medic.

Fishing Near the Glacier (Opies):

There are 3 levels of ice on the map, solid white (glacier), thick striped (huge ice burgs) and thin striped (small ice chunks).

When fishing in the thick striped area, you are 99.9% shielded from weather.  Litterally - you can fish under the darkest and nastiest clouds and never know it because the strom surge is blocked by the ice burgs

You cannot get too close to the glacier or else your pots will disappear (unexplained phantom ice monster, possibly?) - but you can twist and bend your way through the building-sized ice burgs and find plenty of fishing lanes.  Do not drop pots between the last line of ice burgs and the glacier or else the phantom ice monster will eat them the instant you launch the pot.

This has been completely invaluable to me in the later seasons of career mode where the weather gets very bad - it only works during Opie season and you need to wait 12-16 hours "into" the start of the season before the ice stops moving so you can drop your pots in there - if you drop before the  ice stops moving you will lose them all.
