Rockstar Chooses NaturalMotion’s euphoria Technology
By: César A. Berardini - "Cesar" [image]http://media.teamxbox.com/xbox-skins/xbox-360/mybasepage.gif[/image]

Rockstar Games announced today it has chosen one of technologies used in Star Wars Unleashed for "upcoming next-generation titles." The press release below also says that integration of this technology is "well advanced" and today's announcement follows "several months of close collaboration between the two companies."

For us, that means that they have been playing with NaturalMotion’s euphoria technology for a while and we know GTA IV is coming this October. Fingers crossed.

NaturalMotion and Rockstar Games, Inc. Announce Development Partnership

Upcoming Next-generation Titles to Utilize euphoria Motion Synthesis Engine

Oxford, UK – Feb. 27, 2007 – NaturalMotion, the award-winning developer of 3D animation technology based on Dynamic Motion Synthesis (DMS), today announced a partnership with Rockstar Games, Inc., the world-renowned publishing label, to integrate NaturalMotion’s revolutionary euphoria engine into upcoming next-generation Rockstar Games titles. Rockstar’s integration of euphoria is well advanced, with today’s announcement following several months of close collaboration between the two companies.

Based on NaturalMotion’s DMS technology, euphoria uses the processing power of PLAYSTATION®3 and Xbox 360TM to simulate the human body and motor nervous system, thus creating fully interactive game characters that act differently every time. With euphoria, games move away from canned animation, towards a much richer, life-like experience that is unique to the player.

“euphoria is about giving people an interactive experience they have never seen before. We now have the processing power to simulate humans, and the possibilities for games are endless,” said Torsten Reil, CEO of NaturalMotion.

“In Rockstar, we have found a partner that shares this vision, and is renowned for creating some of the most ground-breaking and immersive games in the industry,” continues Reil. “We are thrilled and honored to work with a partner of such high caliber, and look forward to helping create amazing titles.”

Further announcements regarding specific titles will follow at a later date.

In its financial results conference call, publisher Take Two has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto IV will be shipped simultaneously for the Xbox 360 and PS3 in October.

Take Two also announced that Rockstar will introduce in 2008 exclusive episodic content downloads for the game.

It is worth mentioning that back at E3 2006, Microsoft announced a deal with Take Two's Rockstar to have exclusive episodic content for the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV.

During its 2007 Fiscal Second Quarter earnings call, publisher Take Two Interactive revealed that Microsoft paid $50 million to secure the exclusivity on the GTA IV episodic content. The publisher received two payments from the software giant for two post-release episodes. Chief Financial Officer Lainie Goldstein also revealed when these episodes will be released:

The first 25 is for the first episodic content package that’s supposed to go out and that is in March of ’08. That’s why it moved into current because it’s in the next 12 months. The second 25 will be for the second episodic, the episode, and that will be later in fiscal ’08.

The game will tell the story of Niko Bellic, who comes to America after receiving emails from his cousin Roman, who is supposed to be living the “American Dream.”

Far from the truth, Roman is actually having problems, and his debts have brought him lots of enemies.

Playing as Niko, you come to America, help your cousin and subsequently become a name in the underground ghettos. Rockstar let slip in the preview that, although your character’s main purpose will be to help Roman, his past will haunt him later in the game. This could definitely mark the difference between the downloadable episodes that are exclusive to each console.

No we can't post the new trailer just yet, but you can download a new GTA 4 theme and picture pack for your Xbox Live Dashboard.

Simply access the Xbox Live Marketplace and select the Themes tab and look under New Arrivals and download each new media for FREE!
