August 27, 2007 | First Impressions: Warhawk on Playstation 3 By Danny Mendez The Playstation online store unleashed Warhawk on the world today at midnight Eastern Time. If you're lookin' to find out whether it's worth your money, inquire inside. I logged onto the Playstation online store to download Warhawk as soon as it became available. Apart from the PS3's Blu-ray capabilities, this is the reason I bought the console. I was afraid I might have made a mistake. Should I have waited for the mass reviews to come out? As soon as I connected to the first game, I had no idea what was happening. It was all so beautiful. Planes were battling above my head. soldiers were running forward. The game, bought online, had come with no manual and no tutorial. I was slightly overwhelmed. But once you get past the initial awe of "what the hell is happening?" and you get a handle on the controls, you begin to experience Warhawk. It's amazing, both graphically and in terms of play, and, while this isn't an official review, it's worth far more than the $40 you pay to download it from the PS3 online store. The way the planes handle make you feel like you're in a real dog fight, and advanced maneuvering is made possible thanks to the two analog sticks on the controller. Flying makes the game, and without it, it'd just be another first person (technically third person) shooter. But even on the ground, you feel like you're making the difference each and every individual soldier should make: a miniscule but necessary difference. Upstairs is where the real battle is fought, but it is on the ground that flags are captured, ground is won, etc. There is no story. There's no campaign mode BS. It's full on "kill each other" action. It's a combination of Halo, Battlefield 1942, and steroids. It's something that you have to experience on your PS3. It's, finally, the game that makes owning a PS3 worth it. It's what makes the PS3 a real gaming machine.
