RB6 Graphic Glitches

This may help those who are experiencing a blurry picture w/ RB6 while using component cables and a HDTV monitor. By blurry, I mean a picture quality that has been downscaled from 720p to maybe standard TV or 480i and both text and objects are blurry. RB6 supports 720p and 1080i.

I'm not sure why this happens, and it does not happen with other games, but when 720p AND 1080i are selected within the PS3, the picture is blurry. When 1080i is de-selected, the picture is clear, both text and objects.

----------------
I have also noticed two other graphic glitches. I forget the technical terms, so will use basic words like "blurry".

1. When looking at any gun held by the main character Logan, the image of the gun flickers. It's hard on the eyes. Using the same monitor and an XBOX360, the gun does not flicker.

2. RB6/PS3 renders straight lines in a stair step or jagged fashion. Take a look at the power lines in the game (Mexico). Again, using the same monitor and an XBOX360, straight lines are made smooth by a special technique. I forget the term.

In RFOM there is no blurr, flicker or stair stepping. The game looks perfect.

---------------
Questions:

1. Perhaps FM can chime in since he has both systems? Maybe I am doing something wrong in setting up the PS3 for RB6. Update 1.82 has a few graphic things to tweak that I don't fully understand, i.e. upscaling choices.

2. For those with HDMI: Are you experiencing any of the graphic glitches in RB6 as mentioned above? Perhaps compare the guns of RFOM and RB6 to see what I am talking about regarding flicker. Also, what advantage, if any, does HDMI have over component cable when it comes to picture quality?

Thanks.

---------------------------

It's the gameplay that counts the most, so I'm glad to at least get rid of the blurr. It was hard to see the enemy.

BTW - When shooting guns on the 360 there is vibration added. Is there a 3rd party controller for the PS3 that has vibration? It makes the game a little more real, for me, since I have shot real rifles and pistols.  The recoil of the weapons is very realistic.

I can't see the enemy worth a poo either but I'm on a SD TV so I don't know.  I think my TV just sucks but it's definitely darker than any game I've ever played (prolly my only problem with the game so far).

720p is better than 1080i for most video gaming stuff

I'm sure you've already done it but have you tried cranking up the brightness on your TV?

E$ - I hate to say this, but you may have a more difficult time using a SD TV with RB6.  Well..you do have a way with being very good at video games...no matter what the situation.   I too could not see the enemy worth poo and the picture was a little darker when not viewed in HD.

The enemy was easy to see and the picture was very clear at my friends house playing RFOM with a SD TV!   My friend Pat and I had a blast shooting each other in San Jose.

Thanks for the input. I'm not talking about the "hand not holding gun" glitch. I'm talking about the gun phasing in and out of view (flicker) like in Star Trek, and no, I am not medicated.   Ex: When the transporter room is having trouble getting a lock on a person.  It's not a huge phase in and out flicker...but it does cause a bit of eye fatigue for older guys like me who are trying to focus on a target.   Beam me up Scotty, in one piece!

I second the motion...well, as long it does not increase your k/d ratio in Resistance.  Seriously, I have a 19"-20" (forget HDTV computer monitor purchased from the computer section at Best Buy dedicated to gaming. It made a huge difference, and far cheaper than going to the TV section and paying $100.00 more for the same basic item at the same store.

Yup it's cranked all the way up.

Good input and thanks.  We may not be talking about the same thing regarding the hand/gun relationship...and it isn't what I regard a glitch. What I see with the hand/gun relationship in both RFOM and RB6/XBOX360 is the hand/gun always moving/floating together a little up and down while standing still. Not sure about the PS3 yet. This does not bother my eyes. What bothers my eyes is the flicker from the gun on the PS3, and I am very glad to hear that you are not experiencing flicker with your component/HDTV set up. Perhaps I can do some tweaking.

Mole I am using an HDMI hook up it does look much better in 720P then 1080I it is not the fault of the PS3 I believe it is UBIsoft's conversion of the game ... I must say though I think it looks and plays better on the PS3 then it did on the 360 .... havent noticed the jaggies mentioned in your post .... tried 1080I and it looks bad ....

I am experiencing no graphical glitches using HDMI ..... biggest advantage of HDMI is it is a digital signal ... component is analog that needs to be converted to digital by your monitor ... no Idea if thats what is causing the flicker or not .... I spent the extra $$ and bought a 27" HDTV

E$ are you adjusting the brightness while looking at the options screen in game ??? It provides a couple of grids to help get the brightness correct.

Yep Karl.  It shows the bars from black to white.  I don't know how many bars should be there in the brightness section but I can only make out 8.  It looks like there's room for about 3 or 4 more to the left...it's just one big black block.

I play on a standard RCA 32" TV. The edges on the objects could be sharper but after messing with the picture settings under options I've gotten a picture that's good enough to make out people across the way on screen. My other TV has no brightness setting only black level..  no way in heck I can get a bright enough picture with that one.

Tech guy FM to the rescue.

I can't make sense of the in game contrast/brightness grids.  Is there a slider or button to click on that I have missed to make these adjustments? I'd like the picture to be brighter, and have better contrast for the sake of clarity so I can see the enemy does not blend in as much with the building or car.   Even at 720P, I still have a hard time seeing objects in the shade. Out of desperation, since we will be shooting each other online soon, I purchased an $18.00 strategy guide so I could see stuff better.  I wish they made the bad guys bigger so you can see them better, but then again they are not aliens.
---
I'm guessing the same thing regarding the conversion of RB6 for the PS3. The guy who sold it to me said that UBIsoft was having a difficult time and taking longer than anticipated to convert the game. I played the 360 version at the store using almost the same model and the same size Samsung computer monitor that I have at home, and it was much easier to see and kill the bad guys.
---
I didn't know that the monitor had to switch the signal to digital using component cables. Working with digital audio, I do know that not all A/D converters are as good as others. Perhaps the A/D converter in my monitor is part of the problem. With the HDMI/PS3 system updates and the A/D conversion process, my next gaming monitor will be HDMI.

Karl...I take it to mean you fiddle with the monitor settings while looking at the in game options screen. I was up until 2am last night messing with all kinds of PS3 settings more than playing the game. Never thought to mess with the monitor.

Yes, mole, I mess with the tv's brightness, contrast while looking at the in-game options.
