musikamole -> A Son's Advice To His Father (7/6/2007 7:48:59 PM)

Well...my oldest son told me not to buy RB6 because of the numerous glitches and complaints. He was correct about the bugs, but I am glad I purchased it. I just may shy away from UBIsoft in the future. How could this company release such a cool game with too many multiplayer bugs (360, PC, and PS3) and half-baked graphics.

1. Half-baked graphics and anti-aliasing:

Article: How does anti-aliasing fool the eye?
The clever system that anti-aliasing uses to fool your eyes into thinking that a line is not jagged is to use subtle changes in color around the curved or diagonal area. These slight changes in color make the image blend around curves, giving the impression that the line is true.

Mole: Older video games did not use anti-aliasing...but that was many years ago. Why UBIsoft under used this technique is beyond me. [:D]

Here is a post from the official RB6 boards regarding anti-aliasing.

The graphics on 720p and 1080i both need fixing.
720p at this point needs more anti aliasing. Bottom line is this game does not look next gen. It looks like ps2 graphics in a higher resolution. With the low quality textures I have seen on some things as well as the jaggies, pretty bad.

2. The official RB6 board is full of PS3 posts complaining about multiplayer play and somewhat the game in general.

1) Co-op story unplayable due to disconnects
2) Co-op terror hunt occasional d'c
3) 720p resolution issue needs addressed so I can put my PS3 back to auto detect all resolutions including 1080p
4) Comms are patchy although it is possible in general to communicate

Mole:

1. I have a similar problem with auto detect and 1080i, and had to disable 1080i to get 720p.
2. Played my first co-op story today and got disconnected after about 4 minutes. [:-]
3. When I clicked on E$ or FM today to invite them to my created matches, my PS3 froze up. I had to reboot. [&:]
4. Trying to join someone elses match is next to impossible, so I create my own.

Now for some good news: [&:] [:(]

For some reason the gameplay makes sense to me. I'm kicking butt today with three sharpshooter victory rounds under my belt...and that is with all the d'c, reboots, and just plain glitchy goofy online play.

I suggest small maps to start...like the casino vault...and set the time to 5 minutes w/ 3 rounds. Five minutes is plenty of time to score a kill or two and avoid a d/c.  Casino vault reminds me of the subway in RFOM. A small map. Too bad I can't get more than 4 peeps total. With 10, the game would move along much faster. You won't find that many peeps yet...well I haven't...prolly because so many others are getting the UBIsoft boot. [&o]

Last: My favorite kill  [&:]  today came when I was on the second floor and spotted a shooter hiding behind a first floor door. I fragged him. [:)]

7-9 peeps from TGV! That is good news! [8D]  I don't have you, Mx or Himroyd on my community list. [;)] My RB6 community name is the same as on this forum: Musikamole. Please send me a buddy request, or whatever it is called in this game. Thanks! [:)]

Active RB6/TGV'ers on my community list: E$, Dendo, FM, Irish, Jumpputt, and Rubinalcohol.  I think I'm missing a few. [&:]

I'd mess with the router settings if it were all of my games, but based on all the connection complaints both here and at UBI.com, I'm gonna put a hold on that solution for now. All of my other online games work great. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. [&o]

TDAWG23232 -> RE: A Son's Advice To His Father (7/7/2007 11:48:45 AM)

I just opened all the ports on my router listed in the manual....thanks for the info Haze, I hadn't even opened the manual yet [:o][&:][:(] actually learned a couple other things by reading through it.  Hopefully I'll be able to actually connect now and have the game playable.

TDAWG23232 -> RE: A Son's Advice To His Father (7/7/2007 11:50:37 AM)

And Mole....I don't have you on my PSN list, and I can't send out friend requests for some reason....I always get an error when trying to send friend requests.....so send me one if you get a chance.

Will do. [8D] Is it your forum name...TDAWG23232?

Regarding router settings, the RB6 manual uses very strong language. "So if you have a firewall, you must open these ports........If you use a router with a unique IP address and you want to create rooms and games, you must route these ports to your Playstation3."

Sounds pretty serious. I know nothing about tweaking a network. In my home I have two PC's, a laptop, a 360 and PS3 all working just fine, and I set everything up myself.  Everything is wireless. I'd hate to screw it all up.

Regarding opening ports, which PC would I do it on? Both of them? I'm not even sure which one is the primary computer anymore...since everything is now wireless using Linksys stuff.

How do I know if I have a unique IP address, and how would I then route those ports to my PS3? [:D]

----------

Update on opening ports

I went to school on ports...did some homework as well. [&o] I'm not sure yet what firewall is up, but I know I have one, because I had a shop work on my computer. This is what I know so far: When I click on Start/Control/Windows Firewall...I get the following message: "Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running." Then it asks if I want to open or start the Windows Firewall. I think Norton is my Firewall. Need to do some more investigating.

O.K. Norton IS  my personal firewall. I need to do some more homework. I haven't found any place on the interface yet to add/open ports. Anyone using Norton Internet Security as their firewall?

TDAWG23232 -> RE: A Son's Advice To His Father (7/7/2007 1:20:32 PM)

Yessir, the name is the exact same....I just tried to send you and friend request and got an error.....one of these days I need to contact sony to find out wtf is going on.

If you have a Linksys router, just open a browser window and type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.....that should bring up a login screen.....don't enter a username, and the default password for linksys is admin.....once inside it will depend on what model you have, but you need to identify what ip address your ps3 is using....the easiest way to do this is to go to the dhcp client table and while on that turn your ps3 on and off a couple times while rfreshing the dhcp client table list you should see which is the ps3, and then remeber what IP address it is using, for instance mine is 101...

Then there should either be a port forwarding tab or an advanced tab on the router settings page if it's the advanced tab, after you click that then you will see a forwarding or port forwarding tab....click on it and then you will see the tables that look something like this

[image]http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n73/TDAWG23232/linksys1.jpg[/image]

Enter the ports and the last 3 digits of the IP as shown above....make sure you check the correct box of UDP or TCP check the enable box, and then just click apply...

Hope that helps [8D]

wtf...I agree. [:(]  I just deleted all of my messages sent and received in my XMB mailbox. Had know idea that was necessary. It was a long list of messages. Maybe that's why Cash could not send me a friend request. Anyway...I sent you a friend request about an hour ago through the XMB. If you didn't get it, then something is definitely wrong in that regard.

Wow...that is a very generous amount of info regarding port stuff that I will use.  A very big thanks! I hope it will resolve a long standing problem I have had way before RB6. I get signed out or timed out of the PSN with other games too often. I was playing some RB6 rounds online and then got the PSN boot.

Actually RB6 being a royal online pain in the butt has been a good thing. I will become a network guru after all of my home network stuff is optimized, which will make all of my online gaming more enjoyable...now...and in the future. [&o]

If you have a Linksys router, just open a browser window and type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.

I have a Linksys router, but with 192.168.1.1 in the MSN Explorer address bar, I get a search from msn with several results.

When I do the same thing in THE explorer address bar, I get a message that the page can not be displayed. [:D]

Not sure why that would be....maybe try 192.168.0.1....maybe one of our real network gurus can chime in with some advice.[:D]
