long friends and longer rivals took the pitch as turkey went in to play croatia. the games were very competitive and featured some great goals but turkey ended up on top 3-1. With two goals by Nihat and another one for Altintop Turkey found the net three times only behind a cracking shot by Niko Kranchar for Croatia.

The second game was a defensive battle as both teams locked up and allowed very few chances on goal with the game resulting in a 0-0 tie

Austria vs Greece

It was good to have G back on the pitch, taking over the Greek squad.  Both games tonight were closely fought battles, the second being somewhat of a fluke.  In game 1, the action was back and forth throughout, and Austria gets on the board first right before half in the 45' on a wide open rebound strike by Standfest.  The match would end with that score.

Austria 1 - 0 Greece

Game 2 was more of the same.  Austria kept up the pressure on Greece, while Greece had many chances at the top of the box but could not convert a goal.  In the 75' the Greek goalie had a momentary lapse of reason, coming out all the way to the top of the box and mishandling the ball.  Kuljic makes him pay for the mistake and the Austrians go ahead.  The Greeks had a great chance to even and escape with a point in injury time, but the Austrian defense holds up.

Greece 0 - 1 Austria

Netherlands and Italy 0-0 in game 1

Netherlands won game 2 2-0

Portugal and Germany meet up for their week 4 pairing.

game 1

Very fast paced from the start with both teams having some really good chances but the game would stay scoreless until the 82nd min. when Klose would find him wide open off a rebound to put the German squad up 1-0 and that is how the game would end. 

Game 2

Was almost identical to game 1 but in the end there would be no heroics for Klose and the game would end 0-0.

Sweden and Germany hooked up in their long overdue match up.  The games were low scoring and close.  Both teams could have one either game.

Czech Republic vs Austria

The Austrians could only hope for a good showing versus the two-time defending champion manager.  Game 1 was not the way they would have liked it to go.  C.Rep came out early and often, with Baros getting the first goal in the 6'.  Kuljic would even the match in the 35', and it looked like it could be a battle.  But Baros put his squad ahead 2-1 in the 45'.  The second half saw Austria with a handful of good chances but nothing to show for it.  Baros would rub salt in the wound by netting his hat trick in the 83'.

Czech Republic 3 - 1 Austria

Austria hosted the second match and hoped for a better showing.  Ivanschitz would get the Austrians on the good side in the 6'.  Stranzl would put them up 2-0 in the 20' and it looked like the Austrian side would cruise.  Not to be, thanks to Galasek's strike in the 65'.  The Austrian defense would hold strong, and they would net the decisive goal in the 68' by Ivanschitz, his second of the match.

Austria 3 - 1 Czech Republic

Great games bro.  That strike by Baros in the first match was disgusting. [8D]

Portugal and Italy hooked up today for a home and home and it turned into the Hugo Almeida show.

Game 1 was close and hard fought all the way until Almeida was able to convert on a nice cross in the 59th minute to put Portugal up. Portugal was able to hold off the Italian attack and preserve the 1-0 victory.

Italy came back in game two with something to prove and they started the scoring early with a brilliant cross and header by Tony to take the 1-0 advantage into halftime. Portugal came out in the second half with Christiano Ronaldo making some nice runs on the wing. Then it was time for Almeida to go to work. He was able to score three consecutive goals in the second half for the hat trick and Portugal secured a 3-1 victory.
